Serving With Adventure & Purpose (S.W.A.P.)
SWAP is an exciting new option of Asian Hope’s short-term missions program. This 7-day program is for the more adventurous at heart. It can either be a stand-alone program for those who are in the country for a brief period or it can be used to augment a longer mission trip.
It starts out with the much needed cultural awareness day at Tuol Sleng Genocide Center and the Killing Fields. This first day will also incorporate introduction to the city of Phnom Penh. The second day will put you right in the midst of Cambodia’s urban culture by forcing you to communicate with local Cambodians in order complete a scavenger of needed items. You will find yourself fascinated by the authentic markets you enter and amazed that you were able to walk out with native fruits and meats as well as other local fare.
The third through the seventh days will be spent in some of the most remote villages in the Cambodia’s jungle. These villages are filled with wonderful people who need the Gospel just as much as those living in Phnom Penh, Tokyo, Sydney, Toronto or Denver. They are just as precious to their Creator. We will travel 5 hours by van, park and then walk about 3 miles through river crossings and twisting paths of the jungle to several different villages. There we will engage the local children in VBS type activities, evangelism and/or distributing vitamins, water filters…etc.
Our goal in these villages is to share the love of Christ to the “uttermost parts”
of the Earth. As we enter their world, try to tread lightly and seek to bless these people. We trust that the Holy Spirit will be present, taking our less than perfect effort and eventually welcome new children into His family.
