When I was little I lived in military housing in Phnom Penh but moved to a Vietnamese village on the water front. Our house was on stilts but it had no walls, just pillars holding up a thatched palm roof. The floor was made up of rough sawn wood. I remember it having a layer of plastic over the boards. I slept on bamboo mats on the floor with all my cousins. I was the only child of my parents. We move around a lot, I wandered the city. I often stayed with my grandparents but I would have called myself a street kid.
My parents got divorced. When my dad Dad got remarried his new wife didn’t want me around. My mother wasn’t able to provide for me and I went to stay with my grandparents. They didn’t allow me to leave the house so I stayed home all day. They taught me how to count and about God. We went to church when we could. My grandparents ran out of money. They moved into a church and there was no room for me. My parents didn’t want me. The pastor brought me to Asian Hope in 1999. I was scared.
It was much better. There were more people to play with. I started school and began to appreciate learning. The people here cared for me like I was a member for their family. When I came I was not close to God. I was Baptized in 6th grade. Having God allows me to help my anger. It feels like he helps me through my trouble. About a year ago I started doing devotionals. What I appreciate most about Asian Hope is the love they have shown. They Love each other and try to express the love Jesus has for us.
I want to go to college. I enjoy history, PE, sports, Basketball, Soccer, volleyball. I want to study History. I am fascinated by military history. I would like to learn more about Khmer history. I would like to come back from college and teach PE or History at Logos.
In the last few years Veassna has coached in a summer soccer camp, painted Logos, attended summer Bible camps, and worked with Habitat for Humanity building houses in province.
