My life before Asian Hope was really difficult. My family members back at the province were well known and were respected by the people that live there. We live in one of the smallest villages in Svey Rieng province. I was different from all of my family members; I am a careless kid who doesn’t really care about anything but to have fun with all of my friends. I never really stay home so I usually get in trouble, but I never learn, instead I kept doing the same things over and over.
I knew that my dad would provide food for the family. Until one day my parents broke into a conflict and decided to divorce and separate me from my sister. I was shocked with what my parents had done and now I would have to help my mom with all the work in the fields. When I started helping my mom I got sick all the time because I was never really used to working. This didn’t really help my mom but brought more troubles for her. I was utterly hopeless, but I got used to the work.
Now my mom had decided that I was able to survive without her for a while so she decided to come to the city to look for paying jobs so she can support me and give me an education. After a couple months since my mom left me with her sister, she asked my brother to tell his aunt to bring me to the city. I never really got the chance to say good bye to anyone especially to my younger sister who now lives with my dad in a different place which was about 20-30 minutes walk from my house.
I was excited to come to meet my mom and to come to the city, but at the same time I was not excited because I might never see my friends and other family members back at the province. I got used to the city life really quick and I am still helping my mom with her work. After a couple of months I met this family missionary. They talked to my mom about putting me into a place where they can give me an education. My mom agreed. The missionary took me into Asian Hope and told my mom that I could come to visit me anytime.
When I came to Asian Hope, I always feel left out. I began to realize that they were just like my friends back at the province and they make me feel living in this house was just like home. I became close especially with the Fisks. I looked up to them and also thought of them as my “parents”. I came to know Christ and was really happy and also I was given a good education. Except for that one fateful day when the Fisks left and can never come back. I got mad at God and asked Him why He took them away from me.
I began to lose hope until the Sassers came. They took their time to explain to me the ways of life and the things that God does, He does it for a purpose. I began to realize that God took them away to get me closer to Him and tell me to just trust in Him. I was really thankful and began to change that view about losing hope. In the future I want to be a computer programmer and also I want to design a motor and actually build it all by myself. I love it in here in Asian Hope. It has become my home for the past 8 years. I want to say THANK YOU!!
