I was brought to Asian Hope by my Grandma (Mom’s side) at the age of nine, along with my six cousins. Asian Hope is my second chance in physical and spiritual life. My life before Asian Hope wasn’t a pretty picture. At the age of one or two, my father was shot dead by one of his close buddies. Mom was always away, so my grandma became my mom. Even though my grandma was an alcoholic and loved to smoke; she never failed in taking care and loving me as her grand daughter, and I loved her for that.
When I was 4 or 5 years of age, my grandma died. My mother was never around and never knew what it took to be a mother to a young girl who had just lost her best friend. After two whole years with my mom, before I was sold to my grandma at my father’s side, all I could recall was the many times she physical abused me without reason. She never said “I love you” to me, unless she wanted me to earn money for her by either begging or selling to different people.
A life with my grandma involved selling eggs and fruits. I was happy with my new life, because for the first time in many years I was finally allowed to hope and long for something else. Then once again my wish was answered because a man told by grandma about Asian Hope. After many months of thinking, my grandma decided to take us there and Mr. Fisk agreed to take us in.
I loved being in Asian Hope and I loved Mr. and Mrs. Fisk very dearly because they were the first people to show me what it was really like to be loved and cared for. But most importantly, they’ve shown me Jesus, and to this very day I’m grateful for what they and Asian have done for me and my big family. Therefore, I wanted to thank you all for supporting Asian Hope and I pray that God will bless you as you have blessed us.
