I was always loved by both my parents. We weren’t rich, but we were able to keep ourselves together through my father’s job as a motor driver. Unfortunately, my father was killed in a robbery one afternoon. During my father’s funeral, people came over to our house to ask for the money that my father owed them. We didn’t have any money . . . Fortunately, my Grandmother and my aunt came along and helped my family start a small business.
To my surprise, my mother was secretly married to another man and they both ran away along with my two little sisters, Makaria and Samedi. I was really angry with my mom. It was hard for both my siblings and I to accept my mom’s decision. However, without my mom or any adult watching over us, all of us were wandering around the neighbor’s houses. So my Grandmother and my aunt decided to take us in and help raise us, and since my aunt opened a mini restaurant, we were required to work.
Fortunately, there was this man, who used to work in Asian Hope. He stopped by to get some lunch from my aunt’s restaurant. My grandmother asked him if he knows any orphanage. The man then said that he knew this place called Asian Hope, that was ran by Steve and Jill Fisk. I was scared to see lots of tall white foreigners in the city. However, when I saw all the kids running and there was nothing they had to worry about for they were being provided.
One week later, I got really sick. Steve Fisk took me around to see different doctors, but all they could say was that there wasn’t hope for me. I was eleven years old then. But miraculously, when Steve took me to SOS clinic, the doctor said that I had malaria, and they just got the medicine to cure me. Soon I was able to attend school normally again. Everyday, I was taught with the word of God. In February 19th 2003, I was baptized and that was when I gave my life and accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior.
Today, I can’t explain how much the Lord has been good to me. I am so grateful for everything such as to live in a home along with sisters and brothers and a great school to go to each day. The Lord has given me a new life full of joy, peace and compassion for other people. Now I am 20 years old and am a Freshman at Bishop’s College. One of the reasons why I wanted to become a nurse is that I wanted to help people here in Cambodia with their physical and spiritual needs.
