Sponsoring Mentors Program
May 22, 2010
Higher Education and Learning Program: The Colorado based program, the “Higher Education and Learning Program” or HELP, was initially formed to create an opportunity for the students from the Asian Hope Children’s Homes to attend college and receive additional leadership training after high school. The students in HELP give back through local volunteer internships, and will contribute to their countrymen upon their return to Cambodia. We have eight (8) students who are now in the U.S. attending colleges and participating in HELP. We have three (3) more students in college in Thailand and India.
HELP is designed to provide training and valuable life experiences that will enable every graduate to better serve and lead their community. This is accomplished through receiving a college education, internships, leadership training, and relationships with sponsoring mentors. HELP ensures that each student realizes that they can make a difference. Students learn how to lead, how to serve, how to use their skills to better their surroundings, and how to continually develop themselves through every opportunity given to them.
HELP believes a holistic approach to creating leaders is necessary. The students that have entered this program are required to do the following:
A: College: HELP matches students with colleges and universities which provide a good fit for degree programs, quality of education, and financial feasibility.
B: Internships: HELP assists students in establishing internships that will prepare them for their careers and further equip and strengthen their life skills. HELP has been able to secure top-quality internships with local non-profits and for-profits over the past three years, such as: Dish Network, E&M Sales, Chick-fil-A, hospitals, the Denver Rescue Mission, and Mountain Springs Lodge.
C: Leadership Training: HELP endeavors to improve and publish on-going Professional Curriculum for our training programs. The curriculum covers a myriad of skill-sets to help with internships, academic success, marketing, identifying and developing strengths, and professional relationship skills. Each student will complete this program with better life and professional skills, and the ability to use these for the betterment of their community.
D: Sponsoring Mentors: HELP matches students with individuals or families that will help with costs, be in contact with the student throughout the year, and who will offer support, assistance, and mentoring to them as necessary.
Asian Hope requires each student in HELP to maintain any academic scholarships, work on campus part time during the school year, assist Asian Hope with special events when feasible, and return to Cambodia upon graduation.
Today, we are looking for partners to become Sponsoring Mentors for the 8 students without full financial coverage. If you are interested in becoming a Sponsoring Mentor, or would like more details, please contact Jordan Fischer at jordan@asianhope.org or 303-653-6576.
The Sanctuary: a hospitality house by Asian Hope
March 29, 2010We have made a place for you! Asian Hope is excited to announce the opening of our newest ministry, The Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is a hospitality house geared to host visitors to ministries and NGO’s in Phnom Penh, especially to Asian Hope. It is reasonably priced, with service and hospitality at its core. Come to sunny and warm Cambodia on your next holiday and see the work of Asian Hope first hand.
Asian Hope has had an eye toward openning a ministry minded, micro-business in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for nearly two years. There is tremendous opportunity in providing a training center for young Cambodian high school and college graduates. The Sanctuary will provide an internship based on business and life mentoring and fits right in with Asian Hope’s mission to build ethical, well-equipped leaders for Cambodia’s future.
The Sanctuary’s official grand-opening was March 1, 2010. Fanny Heng has started as our first (guinea pig) intern and has learned more than she ever imagined about not only business but her own capabilities. We have been very proud of Fanny as she has stepped out of her comfort zone to learn customer service, accounting practices, employee supervision, and simply being a welcoming hostess.
The Sanctuary is capable of hosting individuals, couples, small groups and even large groups. With a large meeting room on the 3rd floor, we provide a great venue for retreats, short term teams, conferences and groups of all sizes. Each bedroom has Air Conditioning, wireless Internet and a private bathroom. And breakfast is provided each morning.
The Sanctuary is designed to achieve three goals:
1. Employ local Cambodians in a life and spirit nurturing environment where they can gain knowledge and experience in business, customer service, accounting & bookkeeping, management, scheduling and marketing.
2. Provide a welcoming, family-friendly environment for Asian Hope donors, visitors, ministry partners and short term teams in need of a trustworthy place to stay. (We also provide the same service to visitors of neighboring local ministries.)
3. Grow to create a future revenue stream for the ministries of Asian Hope.
Make your reservation now! If you or anyone you know is planning a trip to Phnom Penh and would like to stay with us, please contact The Sanctuary at sanctuary@asianhope.org or 303-719-3440. In Cambodia the number is: 077-66-4422.

Opening Celebration for Logos
January 8, 2010
On January 9th, Logos International School held Open School Day for its brand new campus featuring a 30,000 sq ft building! It was a beautiful day full of celebration, choir performances, dance recitals, speeches and food.
On January 11th, classes began for the first time at the new campus. The building stands taller than any other around it and is in a developing community and part of town. As a result, the electricity went out a few times during the first week of classes because the amount of energy required to run Logos was more than the breakers could handle. Overall, God is blessing this new facility immensely! Teachers, staff, students and parents are doing a great job adjusting to their new surroundings and are beginning to feel like this is home.
Please continue to pray that the transition goes well, students are even more equipped to learn and lead and that God is glorified in every way. Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey through your donations, prayers and encouragement. We look forward to using this campus for years to come!
